My day job is a Policy and Project Lead, based within Equality & Diversity at the University of Glasgow. I have a Msc in Human Resource Management and Bsc (Hons) in English Literature and Central & Eastern European Studies. My background is Hospitality Management, which I am forever grateful for experience of, and delighted in equal measure that I am no longer part of it.
What gives me the most satisfaction, in work and in life, is helping people. I love making things easier, better, and more efficient; supporting others to develop themselves; and finding ways to simplify systems so they actually serve the people using them. That’s taken the form of training, coaching, and building systems or solutions that make sense.
Growing up at a time when computers weren’t in every home and the internet was just finding its feet sparked a lifelong curiosity about how we interact with technology – a fascination that’s still going strong today.
These days, my focus has shifted from the numbers to the narrative. I’ve become one of those people who ask, “Why do you need this data?”, “What are you trying to achieve with it?”, and “Are you making sure it’s secure?” Don’t hate me…we have to ask.
When I’m not doing that, you’ll find me in the gym, researching my next three-piece suit, or gaming (pretty much every kind — except the kind where you paint small figures). That’s only because I already paint planes, tanks, and cars… and my grey pile of shame is quite enough at the moment thanks.
